Jilla is a film which has Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal and Mohanlal in the cast. Others in the cast are Mahat, Thambi Ramaiah and Soori. Debutant director Nesan is directing this film which is being produced by R B Chowdary.

Nayanthara Hitting the Gym

After doing a number of charming and glamorous girl roles, Nayanthara has hit the gym now, for a rigorous workout, like in her ‘Billa’ days. And why? The actress is bringing her sizes down and trimming down for a tough cop look, for the project she has signed with director Jeyam Raja.

The actress will be sharing the screen with Jeyam Ravi in this project, and it has now been revealed that she will be playing a cop in the film. “To get into the groove, a real cop will be training Nayan” says a source close to the movie’s crew.

Script of the film has just gotten racier, as Suba duo of ‘Ko’, ‘Velayutham’ and ‘Arrambam’ has also been roped in to pen down the script, along with director Raja himself. Produced by AGS Entertainment, the film will have musical score by Devi Sri Prasad.

On the occasion of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's 63rd birthday, we take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about his best-played characters that hold a special place in our hearts.

Billa (1980): A remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan starrer, 'Don', 'Billa' had Rajinikanth playing a powerful mafia don. The film featured Rajinikanth in a double role and went on to become the actor’s first-ever commercial success.

Geraftaar (1985): Though Rajinikanth made a guest appearance in ‘Geraftaar’ as Inspector Hussein, the film went on to become a major box office hit. While Rajini played the extended cameo, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan played the leads.

Johnny, 1980: Directed by Mahendran, ‘Johnny’ featured Rajinikanth in a double role - a con artist and another a barber. The film also had actress Sridevi who played Rajinikanth’s love interest in the film.

Thalapathi, 1991: Rajinikanth joined hands with Mani Ratnam for ‘Thalapathi’, in which he played the role of an abandoned teenager who grows up to be a slum lord. The film, which was heavily inspired from the Sanskrit epic, Mahabharata, also starred Malayalam superstar Mammooty.

Muthu (1995): The following year, Rajinikanth once again appeared in a double role for K.S. Ravikumar's 'Muthu'. It was the first Tamil film to be dubbed into Japanese, as 'Mutu: Odoru Maharaja'. The film grossed a record $ 1.6 million in Japan in 1998 and was hugely responsible for creating a large Japanese fan-base for Rajinikanth.

'Muthu' was also the first Rajinikanth film to have music by composer AR Rahman.

Baasha (1995): Rajinikanth's character of a humble auto driver is one of his most remembered roles especially for its dialogues and mannerisms. 'Baasha', which is an adaptation of Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Hum' is the film that raised Rajinikanth from being just another popular actor, earning him the status of a demigod.

Padayappa (1999): The drama film features Rajinikanth playing the role of Aarupadayappan, an engineer who returns to his hometown to attend his sister’s wedding. Rajinikanth earned immense praise for his high-energy performance in the film, which ran for nearly 275 days, earning the actor the title of Box office King.

Chandramukhi (2005): The comedy-horror flick has Rajinikanth playing the role of Saravanan, an Indian-American psychiatrist who is on a vacation in India. The film, which is a remake of the Malayalam hit classic ‘Manichitrathazhu’, became the longest running Tamil film as of 2007. It also went on to be dubbed in Turkish and German.

Sivaji (2007): Rajinikanth played the role of Sivaji Arumugam, a smart NRI who wins hearts with his unique style and endearing personality. It became the first Tamil film to be charted as one of the top-10 best films of United Kingdom and South Africa box offices upon release and earned Ranjinikanth a salary of INR20 crore (US$3.1 million), for his role in the film, which made him become the second highest paid actor in all of Asia, at the time.

Enthiran (2010): Rajinikanth teamed up with Shankar for the sci-fi film 'Enthiran', which at the time was the most expensive Indian film ever made.

The technical marvel that also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had the actor playing the role of Dr. Vaseegaran, a science genius who creates a sophisticated android robot in his own likeness. The film became the highest-grossing tamil film in India of its time.

Olympic medal-winning boxer M.C. Mary Kom has made innumerable contributions in breaking stereotypes about women, especially from the northeast, megastar Amitabh Bachchan said Monday.

'Mary Kom is already a legendary figure in the country, loved and admired by all. She has made innumerable contributions in breaking stereotypes about women, more so from the northeast. The book beautifully brings out her indestructible spirit and is an inspirational read for everyone,' Amitabh said after unveiling her autobiography 'Unbreakable' here.

He also donned boxing gloves as he posed for the media.

Speaking on the occasion, Mary said: 'My struggle has been one that many in our country face, especially women. The reason I decided to pen my story down was so others could read it and feel that if I could achieve what I have, so can they.

One of the famous director Gautham Menon is now busy with Simbu film, Which has reportedly been titled "Sattenru Maruthu Vanili". Same time we hear that there is another film also registed.

Gautham told,

"That film does not have anything to do with VTV. It is a proper commercial package with romance, some problems, action and there is a little message too. After my film with Suriya got shelved, I approached Simbu and offered him two to three scripts. He did not even demand a story narration and asked me to just tell him the date and time that he has to report for the shoots. I anyway narrated the story to him and he was mighty impressed and wanted to immediately start filming too. I thank director Pandiraj for allowing Simbu to manage his dates simultaneously for both of our films.

I have been in regular touch with Simbu regarding VTV to but this is a different film from others. He is a great performer and with the right choices, he can be the Ranbir Kapoor of the South India."

Actor Kamal to Inaugurate International Film festival in Bangalore

Actor Kamal is all set to inaugurate the 6th International film festival to be held in Bengaluru. The event that will start on December 26th.

Chief Minister Mr.Sidharamaiyah of Karnataka is expected to take part as the chief guest of this festival that will screen 145 films from 45 Nations.



Rajkumar, the yesteryear superstar and the one who has acquired the legendary status will be remembered in this festival that will see the screening of most of his film.

Fourteen films that has been nominated for Best Foreign Language films category of Oscars will be screened. Apart from these films screened in the International film festivals held in as many places as Berlin, Cannes, Karlovi. Vaari, Moscow, Venice, Toronto will be screened.

The best of films of World renowned Directors such as Oscar Barhadi, Francois Ozone,Thomas Winderberg and a few others will also be brought to the viewing of Indian audience through this festival.
